Hi Everyone,
My husband and I plan to move to Stoke Road in Guildford. Our daughter is 4.5. Could anyone give us some hlep with find a good school for her. We are thinking about Pewley Down School. Is it a good school? How to apply for a space? If any parents know about this school or have any best choice please let us know. Thanks for your help!

You'll have to speak to Surrey LA as the places have already been allocated for September. There will be a procedure for late applications and appeals but you would need an address, confirmed by a signed lease or council tax bill for example, before they can consider your dd.

Hi, I agree with the others in that the schools you are looking at are good, and will be oversubscribed at this point in time. You can put in a late application and you will go on the waiting list, so depending on how close you live, will depend on where you are on the waiting list (as the others have said, you will need to have signed a rental agreement/exchanged contracts). I would advise you to go on the waiting list asap, as things are still moving at this time of year, but once final applications are done (mid April), you may have a longer wait. Pewley Down and Boxgrove are both good schools (very oversubscribed) and I'm pretty sure you would be in the catchment for George Abbott there.

In the meantime they will give you an undersubscribed school which you should look at closely, there are some reasonable undersubscribed schools in Guildford (my daughter is going into Reception at Guildford infant school which is currently undersubscribed, my son is already there). So, if they give you a poor performing school, you might be able to negotiate (as I did last year when I didn't get any of my choices !)

I also have friends who go to Pewley Down School. Apparently it is a fantastic school - but definitely oversubscribed for the Reception Class of Sep 2010. I think you can get a map showing this year's catchment zone of Pewley Down - to give you an idea of where you would have to live to get in there.
