Would you forego a great infant school to get your kids into a slightly better primary...

My DD1 is in yr1 in a lovely Infant school in our town but we are less keen on the junior school.

There is a sweet little village school just outside the town about 1.5miles from us and they have a place for DD1 now. But I am dragging my feet moving her as I would love her to see out her time in the lovely infant school but that would risk them not having room for her in Yr 3.

Add complication of DD2 due to start Reception in September and the local infant where DD1 is has an AMAZING reception teacher and will have small class of only 22 (about 27 in the village one). Would that class size difference make much difference.

This decision is totally consuming me at the moment. The village school does have a good reputation for happy polite kids whereas the town school does have a wider demographic and its fair share of loveable or notso loveable rogues!

A lot can happen in 3 years with the next school up so don't write off the school in your town just yet. Personally I would finish her in the good school she is at, doing well at and settled in and then make a decision at the time she changes to junior level, if necessary going onto a waiting list then for other school. Remember that if she stays where she is then she will move on with the children she knows and if they all have a good start then hopefully some of that will move on up with them.

She still could get into the slightly better junior school but I just love the infants where she is and would love my DD2 to start there too rather than ship out the the slightly posher village school a mile away just to protect her from the town (perceived) 'rabble' not that they are very rabbly anyway.
