An above average standard of reading at the end of reception. Average reading for year 1. Below average at the end of year 2. As far as I can remember! There is a list somewhere of equating book bands to NC levels.

My dd is on orange band, she is in yr 2 and below average for reading. Most of the books in this band at her school are - or equate to - ORT levels 6 and 7.
There was a thread on here ages ago listing the bands, but I can't find it at the moment.

DS's teacher says that she expects Year 1 children to be reading at Green (the band below orange) or Orange by the end of the year.

Orange is equivalent to NC Level 1A.
