At what age are children doing these sorts of calculations?

(12x8) + (4x3) &divid;6=

(11x11)- (9x9) x 5=

Also, is that the same stage where they would do an oral test on them i.e. 50 questions read out by a teacher and answers onto a numbered sheet
thanks

Probably at age 9/10 I would think. Ours are certainly doing that sort of thing at 10 - pretty sure most could have done it when they were 9.

Doing it as standard in school I would have thought Y4/Y5.

Probably year 5.

The individual sums are easy enough themselves - but the whole lot use the concept of BODMAS/BIDMAS, in determining priority:

B --> Brackets
O/I --> Of / Indices
D --> Division
M --> Multiplication
A --> Addition
S --> Subtraction
