Year 3 Maths

We live outside the UK and my DD attends lycee francais .
Whilst its a great school we intend for her to go to England at 11 and Im frequently worried as to whether we are really following the UK curriculum as the school states especially Maths.
We do Mathletics/Education City and Mathwhizz and it seems we are on track but would love to know what your Y3 children are currently covering in Mathsthis term.
DD this term is focused on
simple fractions and decimals
Division with remainders
Worded problems
Angles
does this sound similar ?

Yes that sound's about right. DS (yr 3) is doing fractions, decimals, tables, long division and lots of wordy problems. Fwiw, Education City is fun but the homework he gets on it seems easy compared to the written stuff he gets.

thanks for reply - can I ask how much homework he receives for maths and are there regular tests. My DD s school follows key stage 2 supposedly but without tests.
The school says it has its own format for assessing but refuses to go into detail so Ive no idea if she meets the Uk standard.

Can I also ask if you receive any instruction from your school as to the method they use to teach maths concepts.
Im finding it hard to keep up with the new way of explaining old concepts!

It is referenced to the primary framework and has worked examples at the top of each page. It is also set out in three columns representing the Y3 level (in the middle), Y2 on the left and Y4 on the right.

I use this in school with the Y3s I teach and have used the other level books in the past too.

If your child can understand and remember beyond four weeks fractions and decimals in any way other than 0.5 and 1/4, 1/2 etc she'll be fine in the UK. Most Y4 children find them both very tricky.

THK, my DS gets homework from school once a week. He doesn't have regular tests at school as far as I know. Similarly, the whole thing is shrouded in mystery and I have no idea why he is in the set he's in!

There was some explanation from the school about how to add up and take away at the start of the year - bunny hops and kangaroo jumps iirc: basically rounding up and down to nearest 10/100. Took me a while to work the whole thing out and DS just does it in his head anyway.

Castlesinthe air - same here once a week but these are school tests of which we never see or receive results until the end of the year which makes it hard to know if yr hitting the required standard.
Do you receive the results of your childs Sats test?

The numeracy framework is online. Just google it and you can find the suggested units of work for each year group.

THK yes they let you know SATS results with the end of year report in Yr 2.

DD was eating toast this week and leaving the right angles!

Grandson is home educated and would be starting to cover Y3 in September.
Went into WHSmiths and bought a book which covers all three years.

No, they report the teacher assessment at the end of key stage one, which uses manyt sources of evidence, including the tests.

sounds about right to me. dd is in year 3 and her maths homework has involved a lot of fractions and dividing lately. she's also done a lot of writing number sentences, ie, explaining how she did the sum in words.

as far as tests go, dd did the usual sats at the end of yr2, in yr3, they are streamed, and get assessed each term, and moved stream if they need to.
