I understand my son's primary school yr 3 class size is about 34-5. Is this normal? It seems large to me.

19 in my DS's Y3 class, but that's a prep school so is presumably smaller than average. DD will have around 13 in hers when she's in Y3.

yes usually 30 where we are. 34 does sound a lot

There is no legal upper class size limit in Y3 so classes of 30+ aren't unusual.

ouchitreallyhurts · 07/03/2010 09:24

there's 20 in my dd's class - small village school.

About 33/34 in my dd's yr3 class.

My DD's class was 33 in yr 3.

It was 30 in infants but there were more than 60 in the year in two classes so they split them in half for KS2. As Mrz says, no legal limit in KS2 so bigger classes (with extra children joining school etc) not uncommon.

I didn't realise how small dd1's class was in comparison to others?
dd3 has 16 in hers

33 here, seems very crowded in there.

mrz · 07/03/2010 17:23

We have 21 in Y3 and 23 in Y4& Y5 and 36 in Y6

28 in each class from reception to yr 3 here..feeling fortunate. I think the numbers will go up to 30 in yr4 but no higher.
