what backpack does your ds have?

My ds in Year 3 needs a new backpack. I don't know what we're looking for really, so thought the mnetters would have some ideas!

We walk to school everyday so it is essential it is comfortable (been looking at some on ergonomic school bags)and not going to damage his back long term.

It needs to hold his homework folder, pencil case, snack, water bottle, trainers and often PE kit and football boots too.

It would be helpful if it had 2 internal compartments so smelly PE kit could be kept away from homework.

Money no object, really, but it has to fulfill both the above criteria. Any ideas?

My dd has one from Milletts which does the job but my osteopath highy recommended ergonomicschoolbags for children.

I have seen those ones. Good to know they're recommended by a professional as they are really expensive. We tried loads in a sports shop today and they were generally dreadful as they are designed for adults and so are too long in the back and the straps are set too wide apart so they slide off his shoulders.

I can't believe there are not more specific children's backpacks out there, that aren't crappy plastic with Ben 10 on them.

I have read a few good and bad reviews of these; chiefly I notice that they don't have a waist strap, which seems less helpful for backs, but otoh how many children can be bothered to do a waist strap up?

my son has a GAP rucksack style bag. lots of compartments and a side net for his water bottle. Easily adjustable straps and it has lasted 2 years.

this made me smile in the gltc catalogue. The amount of bags we have are ridiculous, none of which are easy to carry.

I really don't think you need to spend 50 quid on a bag to carry the couple of not very heavy things that Primary children take to school!

Once they get to Secondary school and are lugging laptops and textbooks, maybe, but I would just enjoy the years when a Ben !0 from Tesco will do the job.

Or go to TkMaxx and get an Animal one for a tenner - they've got lots at the momeent, and all his friends will be in awe of his 'surfer dude" status!

What age do they start taking rucksacks? My yr 1 ds still takes a book bag , does it start in juniors, yr 3?

My ds has always had a ruc sac because he has a big sister to copy. And he hates wearing a coat so he likes to have something he can stuff it in the minute my back's turned. But never a 50 quid one!
