ds was born on 13th Sept 2007, so am I right in thinking he'll go in to reception in Sept 2012 which is the September after his 4th birthday, although by then he'll be nearly 5?

Yes that's right.

oh thanks... I've been totally thrown by a nursery we've applied to because they're taking him from this September and putting him with all the children who are starting reception in 2011, because he'll be 3 this Sept (the rest of the class will be 3-4, the academic year above him)

Yes that's right. DS1 born on 9th September and will start this year ON his 5th birthday!

DS2 born on 1st September, so will be over 5 when he starts.

yes, my dd2 is an early september birthday and 5 terms at school before year 1 if i remember correctly. it will sort itself out by the time he gets to reception.

In case you're not sure, HeadFairy, this is a Good Thing - children who are nearly 5 when they start Reception tend to be ready for it. My September child found the beginning of school much easier and less exhausting than my May one.

thanks... you're so right lemonmeringue. I'm an August baby and although we didn't have reception when I was young, I started school when I was just 5, a couple in my class turned 6 the week after we started. Mind you, at least I could say I did my O levels at 15 and A levels at 17!
