Any advice on where to find Maths based puzzle games?

Hi All,

I'm looking for some maths based puzzle games for ds in yr1. I've had a look at WHSmiths but only found either:
(1.) 10-20 pieces (for ages 3+ upwards) and not challenging for ds
(2.) 1000 pieces (no age specified) which I think is a bit too much.

Any helpful advice on example types and where else to look? Suggestions most welcome...

Fantastic range of selections to browse through - guess I've found what I'm looking for: Logic puzzles, Jigsaw puzzles, Floor Puzzles, Puzzle toys, etc

I used to have the wooden shapes (without the boards), they were my mum's and I loved them, don't think she kept them.

Yay!!! These are pricey but may have to treat myself DD to them

I've just been reminiscing about mastermind. And pondering whether to get the kids version for DD for her bday in March.

"smath" is a scrabble like maths game. amazon sell it.

Not sure if you got to see the Dispatches programme on maths in primary schools, see if you can watch again online.

Very interesting and suggest you google 'make maths sense' it should direct you to the Oxford press site they do kits for school which are nearly £200, but as it comes with enough for 15 children, suggest you split with other parents.

If you can help to get kids into to maths early it is one less strees and this system is very simple and fun!

Learning Resources have a lot of great games and teaching resources, some more aimed for the classroom but plenty of items and games for home and they have a section especially for parents split into various learning topics.

I got some great games from Lark Education

For the Maths Make sense stuff I would advise spending the money on the textbooks and making the manipulatives yourself otherwise you really won't know what you are doing. The manipulatives are easy to do yourself. It is a great system!

Try having a look at nrich Either put in a search for a particular topic, or just browse the KS1 section. It is full of interesting puzzles to have a go at.

Have you tried the Happy Puzzle Company? I find their puzzles etc excellent, and frequently buy from them for the dc's birthdays etc. They do an excellent range that covers all age ranges from pre-school to adult! I'd link you if I wasn't so technologically inept! (No, I don't work for them, honestly, I just love their puzzles)
