Y1 Maths Test - All paired small number subtraction and addition???

Hi everyone

would really appreciate some help with ds's Y1 maths homework for this week.

He is suppose to learn and recall all paired small number addition and subtraction (up to 10). But I have no idea how to help him, I could barely understand what he was suppose to do when I first looked at it!!!

Any fun ideas would be really great, providing you know what I am talking about

Thanks

Hi CADS,

I think this means the paired numbers that make 10. For example:

1 + 9
2 + 8
3 + 7
4 + 6
5 + 5
6 + 4
7 + 3
8 + 2
9 + 1
10 + 0

This could be done using various sets of 10 objects and looking at how they could be spilt up. For example 10 sweets split between child and parent . 10 toy farm animals split into two fields. Hope this makes sense x

This is a good game to play: Click on main session 1 : www.ngfl-cymru.org.uk/vtc/count_on_me/eng/Introduction/

Have a look at some of the number bonds to 10 activities here www.primaryresources.co.uk/maths/mathsC1.htm

Thanks for replying but it is not bonds for 10. The examples we were given were

For addition:

1+2=3
1+3=4; 2+2=4
1+4=5; 2+3=5
1+5=6; 2+4=6; 3+3=6
etc

For Subtraction:

9-8=1; 8-7=1; 7-6=1; 6-5=1; 5-4=1; 4-3=1 etc

It is almost likely learning the bonds for every number for 1 to 9 and I can't see how (a) DS is going to want to learn them and (b) be able to recall them all in a week.

When we did these last year we played the game whilst DD was in the bath. Where first I choose a sum which she did and then she got to choose one for me (much harder!!!). The bath toys got used alot for this. This year we are thinking about hundreds and thousands I'm not buying that many bath toys!!
