Hi

We are moving from north of the river to south and thinking of buying a house in Clapham / Battersea. The nearest schools are as follows - does anyone have any views or knowledge of any of them.

We have 2 DSs, one would be starting in Year 2 and the other would be Reception. Both are pretty normal, sociable children. Currently DS1 is at a CofE school which is great.

Many thanks.

Heathbrook Primary School
Sir James Barrie Primary School
Clapham Manor Primary School
Lark Hall Primary School (Including Lark Hall Centre for Pupils with Autism)
St George's CofE Primary School
Allen Edwards Primary School
St Mary's Catholic Primary School
John Burns Primary School
Macaulay Church of England Primary School

Chlapham manor is supposed to be good but very oversubscribed. I have heard good reports about Heathbrook, Larkhall did not used to have a good reputation.

Macauley is very good. There is a new head this term at John Burns, who has come from a school in Earlsfield.
Don't know about the rest I'm afraid.

Thanks for your replies. Heathbrook is just round the corner from the house we like (second viewing tomorrow), so it is good to hear good things!

The Macauley School also looked good. Strangely I spoke to St George's (which is a bit nearer as the crow flies) and they said there might be issues as the house is in Lambeth and they are in Wandsworth.

Anyone else out there?

Definitely check very specifically how close your chosen house is (walking distance to school gate) to your preferred school as, especially for reception, distance-related allocation of places is very tightly enforced and often very small distance is involved for the more over-subscribed schools (e.g., different end of the same short street won't get in). Info on distances from previous years is available on wandsworth council website. I don't think Lambeth/Wandsworth makes any difference as long as your fit distance criteria etc. I've heard Macauley and doesn't necessarily require CofE attendance (which many other local CofE schools do)

My son is in Clapham Manor, it is really good. Would recommend. It is this year the best Primary School of all the 62 or 63 Primary school of Lambeth, I had read somewhere.

Hi calypso,

May I add which street you live on or how far you are from the school? We are thinking to buy a house in the area (about 500mtrs away from the school) and I am not sure if that's close enough for admission.
