In your experience do teachers tend to get involved in friendship problems at this age? DS1 (6) said today he doesnt care about missing play for mucking around in class b/c he has no-one to play with at playtime -he has mentioned this too many times to dismiss- should i raise it with his teacher or by year 2, do the teachers expect children to sort themselves out? Any views?

Yes I would definately mention it to the teacher. We went through a similar thing with DD at the start of last term when some friends all fell out. I mentioned my concerns at the parents evening and the staff were really supportive.

Hi
I would not worry too much this is all part of growing up, does he get invites to parties? if he says he has no one to play with encourage him to approach the other children to play and join in. He may be saying this because the children will not play what he wants to play?

yes, i would mention it. definitely.

fruitcorner. I was just going to post the same thing.

My DS is 6 and so lonely at a small village school. He gets invited to all the parties but probably because the parents think he's sweet. He doesn't get invited home for tea where the kids have a say.

He told me tonight for the umpteenth time he has noone to play with and sits on the bench playing paper, scissors, stone (with himself). The ring leader of the other kids won't let him join their games.

Tomorrow, I am going to speak to the teacher. Let me know how you get on.

Definitely go in and talk to them. Schools often have strategies to help in the playground these days - it's far far nicer than when we were there.
