Spellings-again

The class teacher who does not agree with spelling tests has been made to do them. My year 1 1-1 cried today at the thought of them! I was a little shocked as I expected him to be given 5 spellings but he was given 10 like everyone else.

\My fear is we are building him up to fail.

Just wanted your thoughts etc.

Spelling tests don't actually achieve anything other than stressing children. I'm always surprised by the number of parents who are opposed to SATs ask for spellings each week.

I know they do not work I myself can remeber it was a battle to get me to practice as I knew that I would never get more than 7 out of 10 and even then it made no difference. My 1-1 has v low self esteem and I worry as he finds language work that we are failing him.

PS personally I do not believe in spelling tests.
