Sex education in year 5 - I'm surprised that some people have taken their kids out of it

Mine are only in year 4 at the moment but know the basics of how babies are made. Talking to a friend today she said she had withdrawn her DD from the classes as she considered her too young. These kids are 9/10, surely they should know the facts at this age?

Yes, they should know the facts. Earlier than that as well

I thought earlier too, seems odd to pullthem out

Did she say anything more about why she thought it was inappropriate for her age?

If they don't know the facts - and in some detail- by year 5 then someone's not doing their job properly!

No, but I was wondering if it was more explicit than I am aware. Can't believe it is though.

Yes, it always astounds me people feel like that. Year 5 is perfectly reasonable.

Besides their kids will just get the playground version of what went on in the lesson. How scary is that?

sandyballs · 21/01/2010 23:01

Exactly, the playground version full of weird stories
