Need some help DD really struggling with new school

We have recently moved which also involved a change a school for DD (Y2) and DS (FS2). DS has gone straight in no problems and loves it. DD on the other hand is really struggling and it's getting worse not better. This morning she was hysterical and had me in tears too. What can we do to help?

ask teacher if she knows any children living on the route to school who you might walk in with?

Unfortunately we have to drive as school is 6 miles away.

Invite children round for tea to establish friendships? What is it about the school that she doesn't like?

What aspect of school is she struggling with ? friendships ? Academics?

I would go in and ask her teacher for a chat, then ask the teacher if she/he knows of anything that might be upsetting DD. (It definitely doesn't have to be like this - DS is in yr 2 and there have been a few new children joining since he started and all have seemed to settle in well.) I would ask her what you and the school could do to help DD.

It's the friendships that she's struggling with. She has come from a school where she knew everyone, had her circle of frinds and is now the new girl not knowing anyone.

I spoke to her teacher and the headmaster today. She has now been moved within the class to sit next to a little girl she has become friendly with. The same little girl is coming for tea tomorrow night. DD was much happier this morning although her eyes welled up when we arrived at school but she composed herself and walked in with no hysterics.

My friend came up with the idea of a feelings book as DD is quite sensitive. So I have bought her a new notebook and tonight we will record how she is feeling and include the stickers/housepoints she has achieved for that day.

What do you think? Any other ideas?

We are in the military and have moved to our own house in order for this not to happen again. I know in time she will be fine, I just want to help her over this initial difficult period.
