Ds2 is having difficulty with literacy. Most specically writing. He reads well, reading Alex Rider at present.(reading age was age 11 when 8) Spelling not bad. in group 2 of 4( spelling age 16 months ahead of cronological age). Maths very good. Its just writing both physically writing and the creative imaginative side of it. I am dyslexic as is DH. But he doesnt have many of the traits I have. DS1 is on the autistic spectrum. DS1 does actually have quite a good imagination, just completly different to everyone else/
Ds2, is currently doing FLS at school and learning to touch type. We have noticed there seems to be quite big gaps in his understanding of language and idioms. Any ideas gratefully recieved

Son may be better at wrting non-fiction. Factual writing is actually more relevant to real life than imaginative writing and if he doesn't have the imagination thing he may still be able to do a decent job writing up a science experiment, writing a letter of complaint, writing an explanation of why something happens etc. If he can use the computer to help with the physical side of forming the letters it might set him free to make progress. Keep up the encouragement, lay off the worry and keep in touch with his teacher about progress, particularly using IT.

Thanks. I think the school are purposly doing alot of this. They are working on report writing and he has been put in a group of all boys which he really likes. In fact this is the first year he has really enjoyed school.
Thanks for your input. I know from my own point of view my English was awful till secondary and slowly improved as I matured.
