First Day of school today

Dropped off DD1 at primary school today...there were tears. She wasn't happy. She is very shy and has selective mutism which means she takes a really long time to get comfortable in situations and to start talking to children and adults.

I'm posting for a bit of reassurance really. I am sure she is fine. I am sure the teacher has read the assesment letter.

I just need to project that "school is fun and great" and I am confident that she will enjoy it or something.

I hope she has a lovely time and comes home smiling.

If you feel the teacher might not have read the notes sent by her nursery, do ask the teacher to have a quick word at picking up time. Good luck and hope it goes well.

Hope she has a lovely time. My DD started in Sept and it has been the best thing to ever happen to her. There have been wobbly moments when she has been very tired and I've had to be very patient but overall it has been an immensely positive experience so far, I hope it is for your DD too.

She's happy! She says she loved it. (DD1 is home for lunch). She also says she's spoken actual words to the teacher and a couple of children! This may seem strange but it would be a major change for her if she has turned that particular corner!

Will now stop with the exclamation marks! and help her change her uniform (everyone else is in a skirt apparently). Hullo peer presure.

DD started reception in September, and has been having a fab time and it is so cool to see her start learning to read. She is so proud of herself too.
Hope your DD has a good day tomorrow too.

Can you imagine in a couple of years her getting told off for talking too much in class? You probably can't at the moment, but I bet you would actually be pleased if it happened!
Hope she continues to speak to some of the other children in her class, and grows in confidence.

P.S. - DD won't wear trousers either, skirts all the way. Looking forward to summer dresses though, all these layers every day is so time consuming for getting out of the door

Oh that's great! What a good start, you must be very relieved! Don't stress if there is a wobble at some stage, I think it is really normal (one of the mums at my DD's school who has an older child said that her son had a wobble going back after Christmas, so I am still bracing myself!) But it sounds as though she will fly!

Yes I am sooo relieved! It's this huge important step for them and just so emotional for everyone. Can't say thank you enough for the messages guys.

Blametheparents: Talking too much in class would be wonderful! DD1 did get angry once at nursery and seriously shocked them. She let rip. I have to say I don't know what shocked them more it may have been that she was 1: Speaking, 2: Speaking LOUDLY, 3: Speaking in full sentences or 4: Clearly thought we were fools.

DD1's confidence has increased hugely over the last couple on months so I am hoping that this will continue at school. And the teacher actually managed to grab me to reassure me at hometime. I was hanging back so I could speak to her when she was less busy. So that in itself is really reassuring as well.
