So as of next week, I'm teaching big writing. I've read the Write on target book but would like some ideas for 'stocking fillers' the 10 min activities she mntions for a year one class with lots of SEN kids all ESL speakers. Thanks very much, Mumsnet is such a great place for ideas.

Really you need the Talk the Big Talk book for year 1 especially with ESL &SEN and I would be looking at GHaSP.
Have you looked on the Andrell forum? Ros is usually around to offer support and ideas.

Have you tried write dance? It is brilliant !

thecloudhopper Write Dance is for handwriting whereas Big Writing is for "composition" the actual process of producing a piece of writing. G = grammar Ha =handwriting S= spelling/phonics P = punctuation plus VCOP vocabulary connectives openings and punctuation

MRZ sometimes you are very hard on people!!!

I read the post wrong and thought it was asking for ideas for big writing movements being dyslexic I do sometimes read things completely wrong.

Write dance is for handwriting I am very aware of that as it is quite a big initiative in Wales and seems to really help with the physical side to writing.

thecloudhopper I wasn't meaning to be critical. My intention was to explain the difference and I'm very sorry if I have upset you.
I have used Write Dance for many years to help handwriting and agree that it works very well.

thecloudhopper · 10/01/2010 13:58

Sorry , have you looked at more write dance?

mrz · 10/01/2010 14:05

No I have only used Write Dance in the Nursery (3-5 years old) as I taught reception and I bought the book before More Write Dance was published. I may have to buy it now I've moved to KS1.

I'm really interested in write dance off to google now. I'll look for Talk the big talk too.
