Poor communication from school during snow

Not a thread about whether or not schools should open/not open during the current weather conditions.

I just wish my DCs school would make more effort to communicate with parents. Wednesday and Thursday mornings there was no information about whether the school would be closed or not until a notice appeared on a local radio station website at nearly 8am, cue lots of texting between parents trying to find out what was going on.

School reopened on Friday (we worked that out by non appearance of school's name on radioe website) but around lunchtime rumours started circulating that the heating had failed and parents could collect DC early. Turned up at 2pm after I heard, some DC had been collected when their parents found out at 11.30am nursery pick up, others had found out at various times during the afternoon and some didn't find out as were both at work and or nobody thought to call/text them.

Don't see why the school couldn't send an "everyone" text the night before the snow school closures/as soon as the heating failed....

I think many heads have been reluctant to close schools and have waited to see what the morning situation was before making the decision. My head sent me a text at 6am Friday to say school was closed then spent the next hour or so trying to get through to the local radio stations. You may find school closure updates are also on your LA website.

night before - its's too difficult to call and school can close unnecessarily. Most school use the local bbc radio station to announce school closures, the bbc website and the council websites - these seems pretty standard way of notifying parents.

Multiple everyone texts costs lots of money and the scholl may not have the resource to do this. The heating failing may not have resulted in the need to actually shut the school there and then , the school would have remained warm for quite some time, they probably let the nursery parents know hoping they would spread the word.
