yr 5 working at yr 3 levels

Ds bright but seriously under achieving. Yr 5 but achieving end yr 3 levels.Been to see teachers and head mistress who say nothing to worry about.... NOT a pushy mum just worried. What do I do next?

Yes it's end of year 3 and last year it was end of year 2.That sounds to me as if he's at least 1 if not 2 years behind.... Just don't know what to do as am really not a pushy mum but know there is so much more in him.School came out with an outstanding Offsted report btw.

Have they said what his levels are eg 2a 3c etc. My DS2 also year 5 was offered FLS further literacy support as he was level 2A for writing but everything else fine

reading 3b+, writing 3b, maths 3c+. Reading age given as 10yrs 4 mnths, he is 9yrs 9months?

My Ds had similar levels in year 5 (we were told they were approx end of year 4 levels). He is very late August birthday and we are tomorrow transfering him from his state primary to an independent school (to start in Jan) where he is going from year 6 to year 5. Its worrying I know but its great that he has such a good reading level- my DS had a reading age of 8yrs and 0 months when he was 9 years 5 months.

Any ideas of what to do to help him a bit? Not too keen on doing his homework at the best of times so needs to be learning in disguise.Am under the impression he knows it all, just not too good at taking tests as is VERY easily distracted. Btw stillenacht,are you Dutch by any chance?

Yes I am a teacher (albeit secondary level) and those levels seem to correspond to year 4 levels from my DSs school report.

My 7 year old son likes 'Cluefinders' computer games. They're available on Amazon and kids do maths, literacy and science questions to find the keys, cross the 'bottomless pit of doom' etc. They're available from Year 2 level to Year 6. Each game contains 4 levels which the child can adjust from 'easy' to 'challenge' level. It's a bit like hidden homework.

Should I ask for another meeting with teacher/headmistress? Last one is a year ago apart from quick 5 min.meeting (with egg-timer...) called parents evening in October.
