Does anyone know how many non siblings were offered a place at All Saints or St Marys in Putney in the last couple of years and what is the likely position this coming year? Thanks!

No, but the year we (unsuccessfully) applied, the school secretaries were happy to tell us over the phone. Give them a call. St Mary's were also fairly clear in advance of applications how many siblings they expected to apply that year. I think All Saints didn't tell us that part but I'd ask anyway.

Had heard that there will be only 7 or 8 non-sibling places at St Marys starting 2010 but someone else told me that rumours like that are always flying around and not ness true...
TRL- just being nosey but were you applying for a 'church' place?

TRL · 15/01/2010 17:03

tvfriend we weren't applying for a church place, nor were we in the tiny catchment area around St Mary's, but rather we thought it was the most amazing primary school we'd seen, just fab! So we hoped against all rational thought we'd get a place ... which we didn't! One of our friend's DCs was in St Mary's nursery, also applying for Reception when we did, and she heard afterwards that out of the 30 places only 2 were left after siblings and church children got in. So we were geographically not in that 2. St Mary's receptionists were completely upfront about numbers etc when we asked - every member of staff there was so helpful.

Are you 'church' or do you live next door to the school??

Best of luck when applying.

Bit of both! Will be going for a church place at either All Saints or St Mary's but do live v near St Mary's. I'd heard that usually there were no places after siblings and church so happy to hear there were some, if only 2!
Going for 2011 so will see what the situation is then....

Sounds much more hopeful for you than it was for us ... good luck next year ....

These schools are generally oversubscribed, I think the Hotham is probably the nearest non Church alternative? Not enough schools in Putney. We went to see both. We lived outside the catchment area, but were regular Churchgoers at at different Anglican church, and I had a position doing voluntary work in the Church for years prior to application, but did not get a place. Luckily, my dh was catholic, and our dc baptized in the Catholic church, our son got a place at a very good RC Primary in Richmond.

Hello there! Am new to mumsnet but have read through some of the chats and has been so helpful!

My question is about church schools in Putney. In particular Our Lady of Victories -does anyone have any experience of applying or know anything that can help. My DS was baptised at 8 months (is now 21 months) and DH is Catholic. I really want to get DS into church school - either Lady Victories or St Mary's (one of the 10 open places if poss). Any advice/knowledge would be very much appreciated.

Thanks...:)

jane- not too sure about Lady of Victories except that you will have to be an avid church goer and then some. If you look at the Wandsworth website they have the supplementary forms you need to submit which are all about your church attendance etc. You will then put it down as one of your choices.
In terms of St Mary's you need to apply in the normal way (ie put it as one of your choices) and fill in the church form if you are looking for a church place (again- need to be a regular church goer). If you're going for one of the 10 'community places' it will go on non-church siblings first of all and then catchment area so probably depends where you live? (It's all on the St Mary's website).
Sorry- bit garbled. I've got this all to come this autumn...

Thanks so much tvfriend. We are v near St Marys too so I think our best chance is one of the 10 community places but then as you say, siblings take priority so not sure how many spaces are left after that or how many people live closer than us! Am stressing already! I called the office a few days ago and they told me that this year 21 places went to siblings and 9 to churchgoers. Best of luck with your application! I think you stand a pretty good chance being both church-goer and school neighbour....

Hi tvfriend, how did you get on with school place? Hope you got what you wanted.

tvfriend · 09/04/2011 16:42

Thanks for asking/remembering! We got All Saints which was our first choice so very happy (and relieved!)!
