Watching The Wright Stuff the other day where one of the topics up for discussion was whether the school gate 'Mothers Mafia' actually existed ! certainly got me thinking ! how about everyone else?

I saw it too and felt so sorry for the families in question, especially the woman who felt that she had been excluded by the "Mafia" because the family had been rehoused after losing their home by repossession after her DH had lost his job. She felt excluded because they were now living in social housing.
Possibly the Mafia were merciless bitches, but just maybe, they were awkward and just didn't know what to say? We are generally quite bad at talkimg to people in difficult circumstances - in death, unemployment and other horrors, we don't know quite what to say, do we? So we say nothing, or cross the road to avoid someone, because we dread that encounter - we are actually embarassed because we don't know what to say.
Maybe the Mafia aren't what they are made out to be?
I could be wrong, and often am.

yes but I also was laughing when one of the panel was saying that she did feel the need to make sure that she didnt turn up in her trackie bottoms and no make up to pick her dc up from school because sometimes i feel like that especially when you are next to the deigner clothes/handbag 'yummy mummy'brigade!
