'School readiness assessment' - what to expect ?

DS is on the list to start reception next September at a selective (not very though) independant school.

On Friday he has an assessment with them, and I wondered what happens ? I presume that he will basically just play with them ?

Yes, initially just playing with him and talking to you. Maybe asking if he can write his name, recognise colours, shapes and some numbers. Perhaps asking him to draw something. These are abilities that would be expected for the Reception intake. The "readiness assessment" speaks for itself. Do you think he is ready for Reception? If so, then he probably is ready. I hope it goes well for you both.

Thanks - I think he is ready for reception, but he can be a bit stubborn about not doing things he is asked to do (ie will claim to not be able to write his name when asked, but happy to write it on the car to highlight the dirt..) so have been doing a bit of teacher roleplay to persuade him to do as asked with these things. Mainly so I don't look like a prat by saying he can do things which he then won't for them
