Any others starting reception in January?

I really enjoyed reading the "solidarity" thread in the summer but it all seemed so far off for us then. I know that not many authorities do dual entry anymore but they do here and so DD starts full-time in January.
Is anyone else in the same boat? How are you feeling about it?

Yup Ds starts in jan.
TBH its overdue. He needs to be with some older children as he is getting very frustrated at nursery with the little ones.
Okay he is being a bit of a thug.

I feel the same about it being overdue. DD has spent a term "helping to look after the little ones" at nursery which she likes but her behaviour is deteriorating rapidly and she is ready for new challenges I think.

She has started to say she doesn't want to go though...

Mine too.... DD desperate to be back in her own age group..... we went to a welcome morning today, and she didn't want to leave (she is a real girly swot though....!)

Yep. DS starting in Jan. He had his first "taster" day today too for 2 hours, and another this week. He loved it today. Hope it lasts!!

I was ok today as it was all a whirl and the parents were taken into school for a chat by the head etc while the DCs were taken into their classes. I think though, as January approaches, I will start getting emotional. It all seems so far off at the moment.

How many welcome sessions is evryone having. DD is only offered one 2 hour session with a parent present.
We are in full countdown mode - 3.5 weeks until nursery finishes, 6 weeks until school begins!!

We get two two hour sessions. One this week, one next. Then in Jan, its four days of mornings only, two of mornings and lunch and then full days.

DS wanted to go to school again today. Playgroup no longer is good enough for him. His feelings, not mine! Its a lovely Playgroup.

clemette · 29/11/2009 15:36

Oh, I hope DD feels like that after her session.
She met her before/after school childminder for the first time this week and seems to have taken a shine to her so that's a relief!

Jumping on this thread as its getting closer!! Christmas is keeping us busy but i'm nervous now. DS has had two taster sessions and one to go. I was upset at the last one as he didn't want to go into the class room, and when I picked him up the teacher got him mixed up with another boy with the same hair! Easy to do ( I'm a teacher too) but I felt like screaming NNNOooo this ones's him! I've never been PFB ish but I am now, I really hope he settles and makes friends, he's loved nursery so much since he was a baby!

Hello, my ds1 starts in January as well. We're in Islington LEA. All the schools are over subscribed this year. Luckily we got into the school I can see from my sitting room window. Not the most popular school in my area, but just fine as they go. It has a verrrrrrrry relaxed admin to reception apparently. Not that I know much about it. They also have a verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry relaxed approach to induction. We have our first meeting with the school on the 8th of December, a look round and hello and buy uniforms. Apparently for just an hour. Will report back when I know more.

He's been going to pre-school for 3 mornings a week since he was 2.5 and he has also said he's ready to move on. He doesn't like noise much though, or being bumped around so he's in for a shock poor love.

clemette · 01/12/2009 22:42

DD is in for a shock also, but hers is more about being expected to be quiet for more than two seconds!
