Enrichment vs. Acceleration?

Following parents evening today...One of my kids is very able. She is in Y4 and currently working at Y5/Y6 level. Teacher says she would prefer all children to be enriched within their year group rather than accelerate. This on the basis of "otherwise she'll be doing a degree in Y6".

It's a tricky one. Any views?

I haven't much clue, but I do remember reading a thread a while ago about a mother who wanted her DD to go up a year, but lots of people advised against it. Lots made the point that though academically it might suit, she'd be the odd one out emotionally, so might be out of her depth in that way. Made sense to me. Has she got lots of friends in her class for example - be a huge deal to move her from them and put her with others.

Do you know what NC levels she is on?

Sorry - I was not clear. She already works in the Y5/Y6 class for numeracy and literacy in the mornings. She is very comfortable socially in the senior class and finds it irritating to have to go back to Y3/4 for the afternoons. This term she has worked at 5C level and since they see that she could easily stretch higher, they are going to ask the local secondary school for L6/7 assessment criteria - their suggestion.

Is this what they should be doing?
