Thank you so much, dilemma456. We are looking into all the schools you mentioned apart from Edgbaston - it's for our son! Hallfield and Blue Coat are both lovely but we are just trying to sort out satisfactory travelling arrangements...

Sorry, posted before I'd finished. We don't live close by and have an older daughter so the transport needs careful planning!

She is at KEHS. She travels on a coach organised by a group of parents which stops at KEHS, KES, Edgbaston High and St Georges, but they are unable to add any more stops (it is already a long day for the children using it so it's understandable that they don't want to lengthen the journey any further).

Travelling by train for a 7 yr old, even travelling with a 12 yr old, without an adult is not an option for me, as their journey would involve a change at New Street. There doesn't seem to be any suitable bus (I've tried the Green Bus company) but even if there was, it would have to be the two of them travelling together for me to feel happy about the younger one going on a public bus. Going by car would be an hour each way, so adding up to 4 hours per day for me to drive - I really don't think I can do that.

Dilemma456, I am very grateful to you for all your suggestions. We are very keen on the B'ham schools, particularly BlueCoat and Hallfield, as they are experienced in preparing children for the B'ham grammars/independents as well as having a good educational reputation.

We had been looking at DS using DD's coach and getting off/on at the EHS stop then walking through, but the morning start time at Hallfield is earlier than EHS's so that he would arrive late using that coach.
We are currently thinking that DH and I will share the morning car runs in (taking both DD and DS), then they can both use the coach to come home.

I did think about trying to get someone to help out and maybe we could do that once he is happily settled in, but I would prefer not to at the start as there will be a lot of new experiences to get used to already.
