KS1 SATS - Can you refuse to let your child do them ??

I am thinking the answer is more than likely no.

I just really do not see the point in putting ds under yet more school pressure when he is struggling as it is.

aren't the KS1 ones now simply teacher assessment, in which case it's something that's happening all the time anyway (or at least should be)?

Oh I don't know. We haven't had any letters home from school saying that they are any different. Just a letter about attending a meeting and workshop about them.

Have a quick look in the archives on this subject - there is lots of information from teachers and parents about the new assessment process within KS1.

I thought schools had stopped doing them- but from my experience, my dcs didn't even know they were doing them.
KS2 is a different thing

Most schools still do the task(tests) to confirm teacher assessment and I'm afraid you can't officially withdraw your child.

KS1 tasks unlike KS2 tests aren't done on a set day/week and if children are absent on the day they will usually be expected to complete it (alone) when they return to school.

Keeping him off isn't an option because the head is obssessed with attendance and has already put ds in the attendance action group because of time off he had last school year when he was ill .

I think I will see what is said at the meeting and then if I still have concerns I will see his teacher and/or head.

His IEP is also due for review so I can bring it up with the senco.
