while studying y3 maths with my dc we had a question asking what is 3/4 of 1 kg.
i know the answer but how can i explain to him?
he only knows basic division that is derivation from whatever he knows from multiplication tables and thats not enough to solve this problem.
how can i teach this?
are there any useful websites, books for this?
and which method to use?
or does he need to know some bonds about such subjects by heart?
thanks in advance.

So he knows that a quarter is dividing into 4.
get him to fold a piece of A4 into 4 pieces and label each one as a quarter, then use it to work out halves, quarters and three-quarters of a given number by sharing.
24 divided into 4 is 6.
1/4 is 6
2/4 is the same as 1/2
what is 3/4?
If he can see 1/4 2/4 3/4 4/4 then he can understand half a kg, 1/4 kg and 3/4 kg.
Bonds? he needs to know how to halve a number, halve the answer and that he's found 1/4.
so then you multiply by 3 to get 3/4
