We have Rigby Rockets as one of our school reading schemes

Yes my dd used these alongside Oxford Reading Tree. She really enjoyed the books as the stories were really good. Plus I like the bit at the end where you can check your child's understanding of the story, and learn a bit of grammar too [(hsmile)]

Yuck, the halloween smile went wrong!

We like these books too. The first books are great. Much better than ORT to start off with. Our school just mixes the RR books- a new book every day. I like the questions at the end too.

Whats the average level for a y1 child?

We use it combined with Oxford Reading Tree. The ORT scheme have a chart that shows which level is appropriate for a reading age. Rigby Rocket doesn't seem to show this. Not sure if the colours with both schemes are related (I haven't noticed)

Does this help?

rigby structure chart

Yr 1 averages would be First term - Yellow, then Blue, by end of year - Green. I think children vary enorously at this age wth reading though.

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 28/10/2009 22:15

Shes been on yellow for a while but most of class on red with some on pink. Seemed to be a huge variety which had me a bit confused. But I guess if shes mid way through yellow and its only half term shes doing ok

My son is happily reading Blue and he has just finished Reception, he will turn five soon and I think he will have out grown the blue set by then!

Does anyone know how rigby star books compare to rigby rockets? do they follow the NC colours - pink, red, yellow, blue, green...etc? Just curious.

mrz · 09/08/2010 10:27

lovecheese rockets and stars are levelled to the same method/standard and follow pink red etc
