Unsure if I should complain or attend lunch reluctantly

ds is in Primary 1 and has been doing half days since August. They are due to stay in till 3pm after October week.

On the school calendar it had 13th Oct - P1 stay for lunch. This is an introduction into lunchtime activities for after October week.

Last week a letter came home asking if child was staying for lunch/was a parent joining them/do they want a school meal or packed lunch.

So I said - Yes ds attending, parent no, packed lunch yes. Thought it was a bit strange that they were wanting parents there - surely this was sposed to promote independence and ds would love to hang out with the P2's rather than his mummy.

So today in their diary it has - children who do not have a parent attending lunch tomorrow - can they pick their child up before lunch at 12.15 as normal.

I had cancelled his after school care and organised to do an extra hours work and get him at 1.15.

So am pissed off that a. I have to go for him to be allowed to go and b. he'll be upset if he doesn't get to go - but then I get less work done.

say you didn't see the 2nd letter and leave ds there.

I might get in trouble when I do go for him!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like the school hasn't been very clear in their letters about what the 'introduction to lunchtime' actually meant.

I'd contact the school and explain the letter should be clearer in future.

You just have to accept you can't do the extra one hour of work.

No it's today - I put a stroppy letter in his homework diary.
Writing said letter made me late for dropping ds off this morning and had to take him in through the main office - where the head was standing - so I was stroppy to her about it and she said that she would have a word with P1 head to make it clearer in future.

She said it was an opportunity for the parents to see how the lunchtimes worked and to help/explain to their children what and why to choose for their lunches. So no packed lunches allowed today!

ds didn't seem that bothered whether he got to go or get picked up by the after school carer. So I might go for the lunch then take him along to after school care for a couple of hours anyway. He was keen to go to afterschool care rather than the lunch. But I might try and see if we can do both.

Just another example of crap communication from school!
