Help! Need a world book day costume for Wednesday ....

For a 7 year old boy!

I have no or very little funds and hardly any time. (thanks school) Plus I am sadly lacking in the creativity department.

DD will be easy as she wants to go as a fairy tale character, we have stacks of them.

DS2 is easy as he wants to go in the hairy maclary costume I made a couple of years ago (when we got more notice), but I am racking my brains and struggling to come up with something for DS1 who is 7. And he just shrugs and says "whatever" anyway.

I did think of trying to make some of his too mall stuff raggedy and scruffy and sent him in with a bit of cardboard cut to chocolate bar size and wrapped in gold paper, for Charlie, but that may be a last resort.....

Thank god I still have today and tomorrow to panic about this. How do schools expect people to manage?

Apparently it was in the newsletter they got on Friday, but I never got it, and tbh one weekend notice is not a lot if people are working too.

Harry and the bucketful of dinosaurs? Or is that too young for him?

oooh pesto, he does have a duffle, but not sure if Paddington has much street cred with 7 year old boys?

So who does have street cred with 7yo boys round you (I sort of agree on Paddington, except that they might be old enough to go "cool costume" without worrying about whether the character is cool)?

Is he tall enough to carry off being the BFG (another use for too small clothes)?

Jack Stalwart? Purple top, blue trousers grey socks and boots and a rucksack, oh and a watch .

You would just need some round glasses, and his school uniform.

And unfortunately he is a bit on the vertically challenged side, just like me, so the BFG is out, although really I suppose i could still use it.

You would just need a very small doll model girl to sit in his pocket and be Sophie. And a suitcase full of jars and a trumpet (which clearly every prepared mother should have about her person )

We have this every year in my school and we as teachers have to dress up too.
I went as charlie from charie and lola. Bought a cheap long sleeved t shirt and printed charlie on it and wore jeans and messy hair. Easy. Lots of children went in their pyjamas.

Horrid Henry? You just wear ordinary clothse and act like a total tosser (HH is banned in our house).

Saucepan Man from The Magic Faraway tree - an upside down pan on his head and a couple strung over shoulders - won't be too comfortable mind.

Captain Underpants.

Captain umderpants! That's a possibility, now to think how i could do it....

Mr Bump - blue clothes with bandages wrapped round

Angelina - ballet clothes plus painted on whiskers

There are cheap cat costumes around at mo for Halloween - got any favourite cat books? (stripy hate for cat in the hat?)

'Where's Wally?' Red & White striped top (colour in cheap white T-shirt if you haven't got one), bobble hat, jeans and those Harry Potter glasses - hey presto !!

If it wasn't always at the last minute (and not at this time of year - prime birthday season so up my ears in cakes and stuff) I would so love to help with some of these - DS's headteacher was traumatised by her own DD's primary school years so now she is in charge they don't do random dressing up . I see her point but I kind of miss it.

DS2 was going to be horrid henry but is now being SpongeBob! Not strictly speaking a book character but he has a great costume lol!

Charlie Brown! - yellow t-shirt (Primark, £2) draw an up and down line along the bottom (sorry, don't know how to describe this), black shorts, if you have a stuffed Snoopy, take that.
