advice needed please - should i speak with ds's teacher?

my ds complained he doesn't understand the instructions for his maths classwork sometimes, and on one occassion had to copy someone else's work,as his scheduled reading time is just before maths and sometimes it spills over so he has to join the others when they've already started. he said he asked the teacher once and she sternly told him 'well, you should have listened' how could he when he was reading with the TA!

my ds is just almost 6 and at that age, I know they can get things all mixed up and all. I don't know if I should speak to the teacher about this. I'm reluctant as she has a reputation of making you look pushy and feel rather silly! But I don't want my ds to miss out as well, and he's quite concerned about this so I doubt he's just making it up.

maybe just try and have a friendly word with her, perhaps say he's coming home a little upset by this - could she clarify what's going on?

I agree. Have a friendly chat with her and see what she says is happening. Never worry about teacher making you look pushy or silly.

This happened last year when ds1 was in Y2 - he made little progress in maths and said he sometimes didn't understand what he was supposed to do - i think he could have done a lot better. I would mention it to the teacher.

I would speak to the teacher - it might be that she hadn't realised he was out of the room when she said that. I would say exactly what stonethecrows said. He shouldn't be receiving interventions during the main input for a lesson ideally.
