What's with giving parents homework!!!!!

Ok, I'm probably just a stroppy cow but DDs "kindy newsletter" this week had a quiz for parents where the teacher said "write the answers in your child's record book". WTF, have I suddenly gone back to school without noticing?

It's not stuff I would know off the top of my head, it has nothing to do with anything the kids are doing at the moment, so I'm guessing it is some sneaky way of checking that we are actually reading the newsletter, though as DD has done HER homework (as always) which is also written in it it's clear I have. Is it unreasonable to be narked?

The questions were: What is a Thylacine and where would you find one?, Who won the AFL grand final? and a word search to which the answer was "Jesus Saves" (par for the course as it's a Christian school).

FBG - considering that last week I was a writer/reader for two high school exams where the kids had special provisions, did my normal volunteer reading tutor stuff and made damper dough for an entire kindy class I feel my levels of involvement are high enough.

Oh I know I'm just being moany - I was in a particular bad mood when I posted this I just have mixed enough feelings about the amount of homework the kids get, let alone feeling that I'm being tested too!

My DCs school often sends weekend homework which involves "research" - for example, last weekend DD had to choose and print/copy a picture of some sort of home to share with her class on Monday, and DS had to glue photos of his grandparents in his workbook with their names. They are 5 and 6 - obviously we have to do it with them, so who is the homework for??!!

WHY are you being asked that?

if it linked with the kids' work, i could see the point, but does the teacher like marking or something?

I would write a sort note saying why I wouldn't be doing homework. Or you could do your homework and then set her some questions at the end for her to do.
