I'm out of touch with the UK education system. How often are primary school kids (7-10) tested and graded at school?

Depends on the school In many state schools they are tested formally twice a year to monitor progress, but it is up to the school.

No idea for private!

Very much depends on the school.

AFAIK, in state education, the only formally required assessment is the Y6 SATs.

However most schools will have their own inhouse assessments, and I assume will do some form of formal assessment at least once a year, some once a term.

Like the others have said - it all depends on the school. At my school we level the children in reading, writing and maths every half term, but this will be mostly teacher assessment not formal testing. We do the optional SATS once a year. The only levels that get reported to parents are the end of Y6 SATS.

Thank you everyone. I'm in Germany and the kids are tested and graded every six weeks. Mine find this quite stressful. We are hoping to relocate back during the next year and I was just wondering what it was like back home.
