Does anyone have any advice on what to include in supporting letter for admission to church primary school

Are you going for a church assisted place, ie do you need to get your vicar to sign the form, acknowledging you are a regular church goer?

Yes and the vicar is happy to do this but i also need to include why i would like him to attend the school

Check the school admissions policy and put in every bit of it that you can truthfully say applies. You most likely need a form signed by your vicar/priest.

I would probably say something about wanting a single community composed of church and school in which my child can flourish. Church is not something we just do on Sundays. It is an integral part of my childs education on every day.

That sounds really corny but it is preceisely why my children go to a church school.

Thanks my vicar will be fine to sign the form but the school is very oversubscribed and difficult to get a place and i thought if i include a really good supporting letter i may have a better chance of getting him in the school

Myguess is probably not. Check the admission criteria. They have to follow whatever it says. And if the vicar is a governor get him on side -- as it sounds like you already have. If nothing else, he should be able to let you know what your chances are of getting in.

Or her of course -- on the off chance your vicar is a her and not a him.

Am a governor of a church school and so 'do' admissions. As has been said, it all hinges on what the school's admissions criteria say. Do they ask for regular church attendance or for involvement in the life of the parish? If the former, you just need confirmation of attendance. If the latter, it's up to you to demonstrate your involvement.

I've always wondered how the vicar measures attendance? A local church school to us has an entry criteria of one parent attending worship more frequently than fortnightly.

I go to church, and would probably meet this criteria, but I'm a fairly quiet, back of the church type and am usually rushing off, so don't stay for coffees etc .Don't tend to go to BCP communion services, so am not 'up there' at the alter IYSWIM!

I am not convinced the vicar would know me and even if he recognised me I'm sure he doesn't know my name, so how does that equate to him signing the 'attedance form' if I applied to the local church school?

I'm on the church electorall roll I think - would that help?

Those were the buzz words thrown around by our Diocese liaison person when we were deciding how to recruit a new hear for our church school.

I would get those words in somewhere on your application

Whippet - Unless you've got a huge congregation, your vicar probably does know your face. Ours uses the sermon to scan his audience and spot who's there and who's not! It may work differently in your area, but in ours you have to give the church attendance form to the vicar, so that allows him or her to put a name to your face if they don't already know you.
