Homework in Y2

Dd has just started in Y2 and has had her first homework over the last 2 weekends. They didn't have homework on Y1 or YR.

There were about 12 spellings to learn, some very simple maths and writing out of 2-digit numbers as words.

However, talking to one of the other mums from dd's class at the weekend it seems they've had totally different homework, even different spellings. Is there a reason for this? Is it to do with what table they are on at school?

Sounds like the homework is being differentiated. This is very likely, and will be dependent on the groups they are in for literay and numeracy, or honics group, I imagine.

they have (at least)two levels of homework in my dd's class.moon and sun. My dd is sun which i think is for the less able kids although i don't think she knows this. she is august birthday so just 6 so i am happy with this

The ability range will be such that they need differentiated work.

My homework ( three pieces a week) is differentiated to three levels, plus a special for my G&T individual who is a couple of levels ahead of everyone else.
No point in spellings not being, my top group are working on spelling patterns for unstressed vowels in polysyllabic words, my lower ability are working on using apostrophes to shorten words.
So we went from definite and signature to don't and can't.

Thanks. I was curious though that the group which is equivalent to dd's but in the other class also had very different homework.
