Loss of enthusiasm in year 1

DS has just started year 1 and the realities have started to hit him. He loved Reception and was enthusiastic about going back to school but now he is grumpy and the enthusiasm is waining fast. When I asked what he wasn't happy about he said too much writing and having to listen too much. Is there anything I can do to lessen the blow of year 1? I really don't want all is enthusiasm to disapear. His experience is probably not helped by being in a mixed year 1/2 class.

Give it a week or two before you worry about it too much. The first weeks of term are very tiring. Then have a chat with his teacher and see how he seems in class.
