DD1 is going to take the entrance exams for two independant schools in January. I have been told to use NFER Nelson practice papers for her to revise with.

I have no idea which ones to get can anyone help me? Any advice?

NFER Nelson is sold under the "Letts" brand name (the company was bought out).
You can buy them in WH SMiths and on amazon. Make sure you know whether is Multiple Choice or Standard format as they sell two versions.
Good luck for your DD! My DS is going through the same process. fingers crossed!

Some schools have examples on their website

Thank you for replying!

Good Luck to your DS 2009.

Have ordered a variety pack of multiple choice and a variety pack of standard papers. Will see how we get on.

I have asked around at school but those entering their DCs are tightlipped and will not even talk about it!

Hi newpup...I agree with 2009.We thought ds1 was going to do multiple choice but I found out on 11+ forum it is the Standard version[a few weeks ago]Only really makes a difference for the Verbal. He sits his this Friday and next FridayI think it can be competitive but as we haven't lived here long I don't know anyone to get competitive withGood Luck

Thanks newpup.I said on another thread that we are fortynate in that we will Home ed if he does not go to Grammar...if he passes he may decide not to go and if he dosen't will will Home ed too.At the moment he appears unmotivatedeven though he was motivated before the hols.

Doobydoo · 06/09/2009 20:49

Oh and Good Luck to your DD

Doobydoo · 06/09/2009 20:51

Not wanting to strees you but on 11+forum they mention the books by Susan Daughtrey these explain the method behind the questions and I think include all 21 question types as NFER just use 15 question types for their practice papers...her books are on Amazon, though we have not got these, also the Bond practice papers are worth a go,we have these.

Thanks. Both the schools have advised us that the exams are based on NFER Nelson.

We have decided not to go down the tutor route although I am alone amongst her peers in this!!

It is really weird as no one will talk about it as if mentioning it will mean your child is less likely to get a space!

I am trying to focus on the fact that she is above average in most subjects, works hard and is articulate. If we go through practice papers together she should be able to hold her own in the entrance exam and if she can't then I guess the school is not right for her. I suppose I would be more pushy if it were a selective state Grammar as the fight for places is more severe!

Thanks for everyones advice!
