State primary schools in Beeston Notts?

I know it's a long shot, but does anyone have any info about Primary schools in Beeston? We need a Year 1 place for our son in September but won't have to opportunity to look around the schools - Round Hill and Beeston Fields seem like the most likely options, Ofsteds are OK but any inside info would be greatly appreciated.....

Lots of kids whose parents work at the university at both. Not heard anything terrible or great about either around the office.

You could try sticking another thread in mumsnet Local, see above. It's for people that live in your area so people from Nottingham will (hopefully) see it and respond.

FluffyBunny - thanks, will do that.

Whereabouts in Beeston you living? You could try getting a place at Bramcote Hills Primary (other side of A52). It's excellent

Round Hill most definitely. This is where DD is going and I teach at the secondary to which both are feeders. Beeston Fields is in a sure start area and, although very good, most local parents are clamouring to get their children into Roundhill. As a result it is over-subscribed.

Thanks for the replies.

moodyblue - we're well out of catchment for Bramcote Hills (we're v. near the Uni), so no chance there, I think.

clemette - we've put Round Hill as first choice on the form, so fingers crossed.

Have you sent the form?
John Clifford would be a good second choice if you are that side.
RH took only one child out of catchment into reception last year (though it has taken 3 out of catchment for this year's intake!) so a good second choice might be important. However, as I say, Beeston Fields is on the up I think.

Good luck - perhaps I will see you at the Parent's Association meetings (it is very active and you might get dragged along to the allotment!)

clemette - Round Hill is actually our catchment school, but not sure if there's space in Year 1. John Clifford is also very close (we're kind of equidistant from RH, JC and BF) but is full, according to the guy I spoke to on the phone. He said BF definitely has places, but he couldn't give us a definite answer for RH.

Enjoy Beeston - it is a lovely town to live in .

My brother went to Round Hill yonks ago and loved it. I went to Grove Primary, which closed, then College House Juniors, which I totally loved. This is prob very useless seeing as I'm in my 30s now, but I hope you enjoy Beeston - it was a great place to be a child in.

FimbleHobbs - heard good things about College House, so it may be an option for later. I'm getting rather attached to the idea of Round Hill now, but not sure that the odds we'll get a place are that good, so should probably stop thinking about it.
