If I go into school to see Head / Head of KS2, will they think I am being OTT?

DS has dyslexia. In year 4

had a difficult year, some issues re his teacher. which are sorted, but it is almost the end of the year

However, I feel his confidence is really undermined and his maths is just atrocious and does not seem to be improving despite extra help.

conversely, his reading and writing is massively improved. he is on ORT stage 12 now.

I am really worried that he will go into year 5 without the confidence to build on and it is easy to slip through the net. his one to one and small group learning ws not initiated this school year until after the first half term as his teacher felt he was coping.

Don't want to be seen as 'please single out my child for extra attention ' but also don't want a repeat of this year.

i also let things slide a bit as teacher kept reassuring me he was fine, so did not follow up my concerns

Does the school have a sen coordinator? Perhaps you could arrange to meet him/her and discuss the issues you feel DS has.

They will be able to provide support and advice to the next teacher, whilst liaising with the current teacher. That way you won't lose half a term during the first half term back after the holidays.

Hopefully they will reassure you about support for your DS next year (shame his current teacher has let him down).

You need to stay on top of it as I think (with two dyslexic boys) that Y4/5 is where dyslexia really starts to affect their confidence. I got fobbed off for years with DS1 which I still feel really guilty about - I took the school's word for it and didn't push things which I really regretted later. Don't be guilted into accepting the "other kids are more in need of the limited help we can offer" argument.

With experience behind me I have found that making it clear to schools that you don't expect them to everything for your child, you are quite willing to support at home etc. but you want to be sure you're all singing from the same hymn sheet!
