Help- ideas for keeping very arsey Y6 class quiet!

Am doing supply in there tomorrow, and Ofsted are in! Any great tips for keeping them quiet while changing for PE etc - behaviour is often abysmal with this lot. Will do some planning tonight - but anyone got any good strategies? Fun reward type thingies? Thinking skills that don't require talking?!

I feel for you, inspections are dreadful and even worse if you're doing supply. What has worked well for me in year 6 is time challenges. I'd say that during the day they have the opportunity to save time. I challenge them to line up quietly in under say 3 minutes. If they do they ear 1 minute plus how much under the 3 minutes they were. At the end of the day the earnt time is used to play games or do something else that they enjoy. Just make sure that you have high expectations and communicate them and the consequences of misbehaving to the children.

Good tip, thanks. I've got some 'happy pebbles' that I could use as a visual indicator of what they're earning.

I like the idea - I think they'll struggle with 3 opportunities, but worth a try. They are seriously arsey and don't care/have little respect. Just want to get through the day with them being relatively quiet, and avoiding massive confrontations with Inspectors lurking around!

Off topic, I know, but am curious as to why the school has supply in during Ofsted? Is it to release someone from the management team?

I had a great day with a very difficult class - bribery works wonders, even with arsey 11 year olds!

Glad to hear the day went well. I've found that 11 year olds are often more childish than you think and tend to like stickers and certificates as much as younger children =)
