...or maybe it isn't?

He's just 6, in yr 1 then, and this week's list (practising ph) includes

alphabetical
sphinx
Philippa
Christopher

Bit hard no? Well Christopher easy enough if it's your name but although we know one it's not DS2.

This is in a week when DD (yr 3) has had: jelly/ies
party/ies etc

Oh and DS1 (yr 5) had a series including
use
used
useless
love
loved
loving

I wish dd had had spellings like that at that age. They are practising the ph aren't they? He's being challenged; is that not good?

(IMO the spellings your other children are a different matter - I would be complaining about those, hardly stretching are they?)

those words are from the Letters and Sounds phonics program see nationalstrategies.standards.dcsf.gov.uk/node/84969 where you can download the document which has all the words listed in it for each of the phases. So they may have been working on "ph" sound in phonics this week or last, hence those words. We give those to some of our higher year ones as well as lower year two's...higher twos would have trickier words! They should have been practising the words in class as well though, so it should not be just for homework.

I I don't have a problem with him being stretched - agree there's not much point in spellings which the child knows at once (no point at all in DD's spellings then ever - she's got one wrong all year ).

Just thought they were rather obscure; and yes, much harder than the older two had!

Yes Melissa they do practise them in class which is a good thing as sometimes we forget to do them until the night before the test tell me I am not the only one
