Hey to all the mums out there, I'm a newy.
Just wondered if any one has any knowledge on the private primary schools around wimbledon. Any feedback on prospect house or the hall would be fab.
Still got a few years, my dd is only 2 /6months, but everyone else seems to be so organized, how they have the time baffles me. I have another baby girl of 14 weeks and can't seem to find much time to research so would appreciate any help x

Hey mums, I was wondering if anyone had any info on the private primary schools around wimbledon, especially the hall or prospect house, have done some research but would welcome any personal opinions. My daughter is only 2 and 6 months, but everyone is so organized these days! So am starting to feel the pressure!! Also don't have much time to check things as she is not at nursery until September and I have a 15 week baby girl as well, so pretty hectic x

The two most centrally located girls schools in Wimbledon are Wimbledon High (GDST) and The Study (up on the Common near the golf course.

WH has the reputation (slightly undeserved) for being a bit of a hothouse, Study is a bit more relaxed. WH entrance is done on the basis of an assessment and you only need to register the year before. Study is on the basis of a ballot, you put your name in and it might come up.

There is also a co-ed school in Drax Avenue, the Rowans. Although it is co-ed it tends to have more boys than girls - not sure of entrance requirements.

If you go further afield there are lots in Putney, Putney High, Prospect House....

All depends what you are looking for.

I think the Independent Schools Information Service is doing an exhibition in Centre Court this October - might be worth a nosy.

HTH.

Slummymomma, that is all very interesting. Any hot tips for boys' schools? I fear I have completely missed the boat for DS ...

Isn't the Ursuline Prep in Wimbledon?

There used to be Donhead for boys (prep to Wimbledon College).

They're probably faith schools though, aren't they?

Lilymaid · 20/05/2009 16:48

Kings College has a prep.
Ursuline Prep (RC) is in the Downs. There is still a prep for Wimbledon College (RC boys).

For boys Squirrels tends to be the preferred choice amongst the Yummy Mummies. It is owned by Kings and preps them for Kings Junior School, Shrewsbury House. You can register early, think they have a selection process but not sure.

The Rowans (co-ed) is another option.

Rokeby - towards Kingston - is worth a try. Goes all the way up to Common Entrance at 13 but lots of people use it as a pre-prep and leave at 7.

Donhead does take them from Reception - good reputation for sporty boys.

Worth remembering that there are some excellent state schools in Wimbledon - speaking as a state school about to become private school mummy. Check out the sats results. Will find the link and post it.

Here's the Merton sats results

I've checked out Ursuline Prep, but wasn't very impressed. It shouldn't really be private and the headmistress made the mistake of telling me that it is only so, to fund the high school which is state!! Also she said that if I wanted my daughter to go to a private secondry school then she would have to have extra tuition as they probably wouldn't be able to pass an entrance exam based on their teaching...........
Anyway, any reviews on the hall or prospect house?
Thanks slummymomma for the sat results link, Merton seems to do very well and I haven't ruled the state system out, just trying to do what's best in the pressured world we live in.

Am in need of desperate help in suggestions for private primary schools for my 8 yo daughter around or near Kingston-Upon-Thames. Have tried contacting most, but so difficult to find one with a space. I have placed my 11yo at Surbiton, but there's not space for year 4 Sept 2018 intake.

Sunshine5050 · 05/06/2018 18:11

Try The Study in New Malden or Weston Green School in Thames Ditton.

Questionsmorequestions · 07/06/2018 20:24

That sounds very odd re the Ursuline prep. The secondary is separate, doesn’t have the same governors or funding stream.

jeanne16 · 08/06/2018 19:32

Holy Cross in Kingston? Claremont Fancourt School in Esher?

Have you just moved to the area, sangitaanand71? If so, welcome!

You might have more luck starting a new thread, since this is a very old one, and people might not spot your comment towards the end.

But to answer your question.. if you're struggling to get a space for your 8yo in the right private school, it would be worth putting her on the waiting list for some state schools too. There are some great state schools in the area, and spaces often come up at that age as some children move to private (as well as normal movement out of the area, which is quite high in Wimbledon/Kingston compared to other parts of the country).

Then you can see how things go, and take your time waiting for a space or a natural entry point to your preferred school, rather than just whichever has space.

I assume you'd ideally like both girls to be at the same school. Surbiton High School is really big, and I'd be surprised if a space doesn't come up within a year or so.
