School investigated by LEA

I was told recently that our village school had the management inspected by Ofsted.
I found out today that it is actually the LEA who has inspected due to it's poor SATs results particularly in yr 6 with the vast majority being below the national average.
As I understand it, the school was asked to provide extra classes during the Easter holiday as the current yr 6 are also expected to underperform. The Head refused.
So... What will happen now?
Has anyone heard of this or have experience of this situation?
Is there a chance the head could be removed?

Are your children at this school?

I moved them this year Anna. (thank god)
My friend is panicking like mad now and can't decide whether to move her son. I think she should.... and asap.

I agree, it sounds awful.

You obviously had foresight! Well done.

I think if a school is failing that badly (and I have to say I've never heard of a school being put on what sounds like Special Measures without it being a result of an Ofsted inspection), then the LA will be in there like a ton of bricks - extra/new Governors brought in, lots of additional support and funding etc.

A school local to me actually turned itself around very quickly after being put on Special Measures, so your friend shouldn't necessarily panic. It's very very unlikely that the school will get worse, and much more likely that it will improve dramatically.

Thanks for your responses.
I wish I could say I had loads of foresight, unfortunately not. It has been in a poor state for about 3 yrs now. It was without a head for a year and now how has a very weak head and things have steadily got worse.
What it needs is someone strong and pretty disciplined to come in and change everything, it's had years of wishy washy. But it's numbers has fallen so much, with a lot of withdrawls I think there is a chance it could close. It only has 80 on the roll but it is a very rural school so maybe it can't.
