When to give up on a waiting list?

We are lat to apply due to moving and only just finding a house. I would like my daughter to start reception in the local village school so we are on the waiting list. At what point do you give up and go with plan B?

I'd go with plan B while still waiting on plan A.

FWIW, dd is still on waiting list for the nearest school, and she's now in the last term of yr 1! Went from about 16th on list, up to 3rd, and now is hovering around about 8th. Is an urban area though, so perhaps more movement in than out.

Have come to conclusion that dd happy where she is, getting on really well, and that probably wouldn't take a place even if it were offered.

Sounds like a plan! Thanks
