Milbourne Senior is introducing year 1 entry (6+) for boys and girls for September 2009.

Any thoughts on this as I have heard it is an excellent prep school. Any other good schools in the area?

Is this anything to do with Milbourne Junior being bought by Shrewsbury House?

Yorkshirerose,

I have found out more information!

The senior school has not been purchased by Shrewsbury house and intents to incorporate a prep prep intake.

It has outstanding results and more scholarships to the "top schools" than any other school. I plan to get my ds in before the floodgates open at milbourne senior!

Any other parents in the oxshott/cobham/esher are have any input?

Not sure things are great, they have had problems appointing a head, one started then left. They are owned by a bigger group. We looked at sending DS there and felt that it is in such a state of flux, it needs to settle down. We do know boys who are going in september and are aware it isn't full.
Very interested to see what happens to the Shrewsbury intake with them owning a pre-prep.
Are you also aware that if your child isn't up to scratch they are really tough! However this might have changed with the departure of the previous head.
Would choose Shrewsbury over Milbourne, but they are the two best academically.

Goingslowly....

Thanks for the input. its is much appreciated.

I think that majority of boys from the junior school are going to the senior. Is this what you have heard?

I have met the head Ms Holland who seems on the ball and very caring.

Can you expand on the comment...They are really tough if the child is not up to scratch.

Thanks

Do you mean previously the boys went from Milbourne Junior to Senior? Wasn't sure it was the majority and had heard but don't know how true it is that none were going on this year which was something that surprised us.
They ask alot of their boys, the standard is really high. The previous head made it very clear it wasn't for the faint hearted! We know a parent who it was suggested that they leave as their son wasn't up to it.

I know that the junior school had a year 3 last year but since the senior school announced a year 3 most of the boys are leaving the junior for the senior.( I think 14 are going on) Now that a year 1 has been announced it will be interesting to see what happens to both schools.

I think that is the attraction for me as the standard is high..whether you send boys to squirrels, lanesborough or colet court the standard is very high if you are thinking of that route.A lot of parents in this area seem to want to go that route.

Just curious did that person stay or move on?

Had a look at Milbourne Senior about a year ago. Really liked the head - but is he the one who has left, goingslowly? That's a shame if so. We decided in the end was not quite right for our DS - I picked up a bit on the higher pressure environment which is not quite right for him. He is very bright but stubborn as hell if pushed! He is going to Shrewsbury House in Sep and he's really looking forward to it as he's really into sport.

Was the Junior School owned by same people as senior school? Possibly reason for selling junior school was to invest more in senior school as it looked like it needed a bit of TLC when we looked round.

There is a new female head, the head that you mentioned has indeed left.

The parent we know left and put their son into Colets Court.
No, the schools were seperate businesses, the prep is part of a bigger group, not sure who though.

YorkshireRose · 12/05/2009 18:13

Oh I see.

Seems like a lot of upheaval at Senior school at the moment, probably best to let it settle down.

Anyway, we are very happy with our choice for ds at the moment, see how it all goes in Sep.

It seems most unlikely that if a boy wasn't up to Milbourne Lodge he'd get into Colet Court which is not exactly known for being an unpressurised refuge for the less 'tough' or academic child. If the head of a current school had a low opinion of a boy's potential it wouldn't exactly be a recommendation to a school as academically demanding as CC.

Still, stranger things have happened at sea.
