Our thing clearly states that the sibling 'has to be in the school at the time of starting' which would imply that the school might be able to retract a place but the easiest way is surely to ask directly. It either will or won't matter.

We checked because we're trying to get DS2 into a school on the back of DS1 being a pupil there- except he isn't yet- he starts after half term!

In our school they have to be pupils at the time of starting too. I know of someone who was going to move her older child at the start of the next academic year, having received an offer for the younger sibling to start in Reception, and were told they couldn't guarantee the sibling place (ie the sibling preference wouldn't apply though they might still get in on distance etc).
