Hallelujah!

"children about to move into their final year at primary school will enjoy 'normal' education for the first time in 15 years"

I do hope the Govt doesn't force them to back down. My son, now in Y11, spent about a third of Y6 (Jan-May) "preparing"; ie doing practice papers to the exclusion of almost everything else

I'll believe it when I see it.

We'll see. If the yr 6 aren't prepared will schools still be judged/assessed on how many get a certain grade? If they are then I suspect the yr 6 will still be revising and primed for the tests.
DD2 is yr 6 and bored out of her skull with revision, practice papers and in her words 'nothing new and just the boring bits.'

I bet it doesn't happen. Schools with high SATs will continue to prep children I bet - to keep their scores high/

I mentioned this too Dd1 (11) this morning and she said 'i agree, i don't think we should be prepped for them because it gives a false view of how well the teachers taught the subjects'.

She has been doing prep for weeks now and is utterly sick of doing the same stuff over and over.

I think that it is insane that state schools by and large do not teach their pupils on how to take the 11+ test (which could make a significant difference to the pupil's future), but they spend months preparing for SATs which are of no benefit to the pupils at all.
