Am v annoyed - received term dates for 2009/2010 and looks like summer holidays 2010 are only going to be 5 weeks long!

Oh no - I wonder why?

emkana · 30/04/2009 19:56

I have no idea! Looks like they made the October break 2 days longer, so that's where some time went. There are four INSET days still to be decided on by the school, but I doubt they will add all those to the summer hols.

I was just wondering what we're going to do because this year's summer holiday appears to be seven weeks and one day....

Nobody else cares?

I've always thought 6 weeks was far too long. It was brought in so children could help with the harvest...

cazboldy · 30/04/2009 22:04

OMG I'll check mine!

blametheparents · 30/04/2009 22:04

I have DS off for 7 weeks this summer, and DD off for 8 weeks
I am all for a nice break, but 7 or 8 weeks seems such a long time to so stuff with them for.

cazboldy · 30/04/2009 22:07

Is that a state school blametheparents?

cazboldy · 30/04/2009 22:07

oh and I only have dates until July atm .....

myredcardigan · 30/04/2009 22:07

I've taught in 2 LEAs which only had 5wks in the summer. 1 had 2wks in May instead of 1wk and the other had 2wks in Feb instead of 1. I very much liked the 2wks in Feb as it was pre DCs and cold and I didn't want to get out of bed.

6wks are too long anyway. We have longer at indie school and it's a pain TBH.

Ivykaty44 · 30/04/2009 22:09

They are having 7 weeks this year so I suppose they have to claw back a week from next year?

23 July 2010 school finishes

Yes, a state school.
DS has 7 weeks - ho goes back on the 7/9/09
To be fair, DD will be starting in Reeption on 14/9/0 so her start date is later than his which accounts for her 8 weeks.

Hulababy · 30/04/2009 22:27

According to Sheffield LEA the return date has not yet been decided. We break up on Friday 23rd July.

So will have a wait for now to see the 2010/11 term schedule.

GreenEggsAndSpam · 01/05/2009 10:36

My LEA has 5 weeks in summer and no extra days anywhere else, meaning total hols are 12 weeks in 2009-10. I thought it was 13 weeks holiday?
