Help about choosing a school

My little girl starts infant school this Sept. We have a choice of two schools and can't decide between them. One is the local town school - intake approx 45 a year. Weak headmaster (since his appointment ofsted have downgraded from a good to a satisfactory school) and classrooms do seem quite chaotic when you walk in. Good points are lots of parental involvement, lots of extra-curricular activities and a real community school. Our other option is in a village 4 miles away - much smaller (intake 15 a year, bit classes are mixed so class size about 25), headmistress is excellent, children very engaged and classrooms quite orderley and more traditional. Academically excellent, but other Mums there a bit cliquey. My little girl is quite shy and her closest friends are going to the local school, although she will know people at both schools. Any thoughts much appreciated.

i had to apply by feb for my DS entrance to school next jan 2010, so don't know if you may have missed the boat for a choice for sept entrance.
he got into our no.1 choice but it was heavily over applied for.
contact your council schools applications office asap.

You should have already been allocated a place for this sept.

But I would go for school 1.

Have you been offered a place in both schools? Or why (as others say) have you not already applied?

Personally I would go to nearer school, esp as intake is bigger. 15 children your age is 7 other girls which isn;t many for a friendship pool (I know children have friends in other years, but then they leave, y'know...)

We have been offered place at first school, but are on waiting list for the second. I know from the grapevine we are likely to get the second school if we want it as at least 3 places they have offered have been rejected as children going private. Thanks for comments - friendship nos is a factor for me too, esp for girls.
